This is not as simple as it sounds. If you make the first move, your opponent could simply copy all of your moves on his side of the board and it would be a bit boring, even if you win. I think there should be a rule against that. Also, where are you supposed to drop the Rhododendron and Jade tiles? There is no such thing as the center of the board.

even though iroh also played this way on his ship in the episode "the waterbending scroll" i also think this would be very strange.
